In the midst of Nadal’s match against Jason Kubler, this twist unfolded and added a dash of controversy to the court. The Spaniard, despite securing a victory with a decisive 6-1, 6-2, found himself entangled in a peculiar situation. The violation warning for exceeding the allotted time between sets definitely caught him off guard. As the match reached its end, the interviewer seized the moment to delve into the mystery surrounding Nadal’s extended break. In a seemingly routine restroom break after the first set, Nadal encountered a time discrepancy that left him perplexed.

In Nadal’s own words: “Brisbane is very humid. I had to change every single piece. It takes a while.” Despite being attentive to the time constraints, the walkie-talkie buzzed with countdown reminders, ‘3 minutes, 2 minutes, 1 minute, and half a minute’. Nadal, ensuring he adhered to the clock, emerged at the stipulated moment. However, the timing miscommunication led to the umpire deeming him late.

He further stated: “I don’t know, I was on time, honestly but he told me I was late.” The Spaniard acknowledged his deliberate pace and expressed a commitment to improvement in the coming year. “I am slow, and I know that, and I’m trying to improve that in 2024,” Nadal admitted with a touch of self-awareness.

The interview wrapped up with a casual inquiry about Nadal meeting his son Rafael Jr. In response to this, Nadal displayed an uncertain approach to the question. He exclaimed: “I don’t know, I don’t know.” On the note of his iconic comeback, it seems like the Spanish sensation is doing pretty fine so far.
