This meant more to the people of his nation because having the name of an Italian etched on a trophy like this was a first. So, he of course felt this win was more special.

In a recent interview, he talked about how much the Australian Open win means to him and the people who support him from his country and it feels incredible to him to have something like this to his name.

Jannik Sinner opens up about historic Australian Open win

Bringing a grand slam win to his country after almost half a century has made tennis fans from Italy very proud of what Jannik Sinner has achieved. And Sinner himself feels that this marks an important milestone in his career. He shared, “It means a lot. Maybe the most important. Because the support I get throughout now already years, it’s incredible. Being able to make them happy today, because I feel like that, they push me also, that I can believe in myself, and then having so much support, it’s amazing.”

Further, he also shared how a group of his fans from Italy supports him and cheers for him a lot. They are the reason he can play better. Sinner also mentioned “They are cheering for you. It’s an amazing feeling just to go on court.” Sinner not only reflected on his big win for his country but also talked about how his last 2 wins at the tournament were not with easy players.

Sinner is still processing beating the World No. 1

Jannik Sinner not only won the AO 2024, but along the way, he also defeated the world number 1 in doing so at the semifinals of the tournament. Jannik Sinner defeated Novak Djokovic in a match of 4 sets and Daniil Medvedev in the finals by winning the last 3 sets.

Owing to his experience in doing so, he shared “I still have to process it, because … beating Novak in the semis and then today Daniil in the final, they are tough players to beat. It’s a great moment for me and my team.” Lastly, he also added that now his team is working on making sure that they continue to work on getting better so they get a chance to hold the trophy again.
