The 2024 Monte-Carlo Masters is heating up, no pun intended. The tournament held in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin will house the clash of Sebastian Korda and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Both players are stepping into the clay Masters with the hope of becoming better players and overcoming the challenges that have plagued their 2024 season.

Korda and Fokina both have not met good luck in the hard court tournaments before Monte Carlo. They have to turn their luck around if they want to gain more fame and points. Unfortunately for them, there will only be one winner.

Korda began 2024 with several early upsets. He was eliminated in the first round of Brisbane International and the ATP Rotterdam. He found some success in the Australian Open, as he beat two opponents before losing to Andrey Rublev. He repeated the result in the Dubai Tennis Championships but had to give a walkover in the third round.

The Open 13, the Indian Wells Masters, and the Miami Open had him exit in the second round, but he managed to push two of his opponents to three sets. In the Monte Carlo Masters, Korda is looking to switch the state of his season.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has not had a much different track in 2024. A second-round exit awaited him in the Australian Open, with a similar fate finding him in the Miami Open. In the ATP Rotterdam, Qatar Open, and the Indian Wells Masters, Fokina was ousted in the first round.

The Open 13 and Dubai Tennis Championships had him running to the quarterfinal before he lost to Ugo Humbert and Daniil Medvedev, respectively. He now hopes for a better show against Korda in Monte Carlo.

Korda vs Fokina: Head-to-Head

Fokina and Korda have played against each other once on the ATP Tour. Their fated clash took place in the 2022 Miami Open, where Korda managed to demolish Fokina with two breadsticks, 6-1, 6-1. The American player found an overwhelming victory over the Spaniard, and the confidence in the victory is likely maintained.

However, their match was held on an outdoor hard court, and their current clash is set to be played on red clay. Who will have the advantage from the surface change?
