Two mighty Australian tennis stars, Alex de Minaur and Alexei Popyrin are ready to take on each other at the R16 match in the Monte Carlo Masters in just a few hours from now. The Sydney duo looks in superb form this year. This will be the first time for an Australian to reach the last 16 after Lleyton Hewitt and Wayne Arthurs did in 2004.

The 25-year-old Aussie tennis star defeated the three-time Grand Slam winner, Stan Wawrinka in his first match in Monte Carlo by 6-0,6-3. In his next match, he outclassed the Dutchman, Tallon Griekspoor by 2-6,6-2,6-3. Alex de Minaur hit only 2 aces in his previous match and made 3 double faults. Surely, this is one area he’d love to improve against his compatriot in his next match.

The ‘Demon’ had a win percentage of 78% on his first serve and 52% on his second serve against Griekspoor. But if we look at his overall record in his career, Alex de Minaur has a first-serve win percentage of 71% and a second-serve win percentage of 53%. On returns, he has won 32% of his first serve while 52% on his second. Both of them have faced each other twice in their careers. Currently, they are all squared up with a 1-1 margin in their H2H. Earlier Aussies found it hard to play on clay, but now things have changed and both Popyrin and De Minaur seem to be enjoying the dirt.

Alex de Minaur has a win-loss record of 19-6 this season while Alexei Popyrin has a record of 7-4. Looking at the number of big matches played this season and the number of favorable outcomes, including a title triumph, ‘Demon’ is the favorite over ‘Pop’ in this mega battle.
