Andy Roddick’s candid statement regarding the worth of his “seven minivans” recently grabbed the tennis world’s attention. Roddick didn’t mince his words when expressing his viewpoints on a recent robbery that Sebastian Korda faced at the Monte Carlo tournament.
Before the Monte Carlo Masters began this year, Korda had a horrific experience. Two thieves took a $319, 615 watch from him in the middle of the day. This incident garnered a lot of attention in the tennis community regarding the security and safety of athletes playing in the tournament. However, adding a touch of humor to the incident, Roddick shared his blunt opinion on the matter. During a podcast, he said, “That’s like seven of my minivans that I drive my kids around in.”
Andy Roddick’s statement underscored the disparity of finance handling between notable figures in the sporting community. Although he said it in a lighthearted manner, he did not forget to mention the broader implication of such a robbery during the tournament.

“You never like to see this, obviously. You shouldn’t have to feel like you are scared or you can’t wear something nice. That’s a heck of a lot,” he further added. He further highlighted the heavy financial loss that Korda faced and said, “I hope he got it for free. But you don’t like seeing this. I don’t know what else to say. It sucks.”

Andy Roddick has always been vocal about how he tries to manage his finances. In previous interviews, he has openly discussed how he feels fortunate to have made a huge amount of money during his tennis career. But he also went through a major financial crisis in 2008. Therefore, when it comes to investing his money for the future, he never backs down.
Andy Roddick explained that his idea was that whatever money he earned on the court would be replaced by what he built while he was playing. And as a result, his lighthearted remark on Korda’s $319, 615 worth of watch signified the difference in how he has managed his finances throughout his career. However, his statement also emphasized the traumatizing incident that Korda faced before his tournament.

The 23-year-old Korda landed in the Principality of Monaco last week to begin his clay season. He was apparently waiting for the event to begin when two people approached him near the courts. They took off his expensive watch and fled. France Bleu Azur reported that Korda “was not injured, but he was shocked” in light of the incident. Currently ranked No. 23 in the world, Korda enjoys sponsorship from the esteemed watch brand Richard Millie.
The event highlights the value of protection and alertness, particularly for well-known athletes like Korda, who are frequently in the spotlight. And Andy Roddick’s comment further highlights the necessity of tight security at the tournament.
