Following two incidents involving Daniil Medvedev earlier in the week, world No. 7 Rune was also embroiled in controversy over his play against Jannik Sinner near the end of the second set. Rune was given a time violation serving at 5-5, 0-30 down against the world No. 2.
Although he protested, he could not play in his best form and lost to Sinner at the end. Pointing to that, he wrote, “Chair Umpire making crucial mistakes and giving wrong warning that disturbed the game. May the force be with you 🙄 Jesus Christ.”
However, appreciating his opponent’s performance, Sinner said, “Playing against him is never easy, especially in such occasions. I’m very happy I won today, but mostly about my physical level – I raised it today”.
Many of his followers supported him during the event and later on as well. His opponent, Sinner, in his post-match interview, also came forward to show his support for Rune and addressed the chaos on-court. However, after this sour experience, Rune will face another major career setback because of his exit.
