Sinner defeated the Serbian twice in one day to seal the deal for his nation in the semi-final clash of the Davis Cup. This was the third meeting of the number 1 and number 4 in 12 days. Novak Djokovic had earlier lost a match at the Davis Cup way back in 2011. He had to retire in that match against Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro in the semis of the tournament. Jannik Sinner got perhaps the most important victory in his career and to do that representing his nation makes it even more special. Sinner had earlier defeated Djokovic in the round-robin stage of the ATP Finals on November 15. Now within 12 days, he has managed to repeat the heroics against the number 1. With these two wins, he is now the third player ever to defeat Novak Djokovic twice in 12 days. Rafael Nadal did it in 2008 when he defeated Djokovic in the semis of Roland Garros on June 6, 2008, and then again in the finals of Queen’s Club in a 10-day span.

Even Andy Murray achieved this feat in 2008, with his wins over Nole in QFs of Canada and the finals of Cincinnati in the same time span. The pride of Italy is now slowly and steadily making its way among the top notches of the game.
