2022 has been a roller coaster ride for Rafael Nadal. The player has had immense success on the court, winning two of the four Grand Slams. However, along with that, he has had to face many injuries as well. Furthermore, Nadal and his wife Maria are expecting their first child together. However, complications surrounding it led to Nadal withdrawing from the Laver Cup after playing one doubles match with his friend and rival Roger Federer.

This obviously has taken his attention a bit off from the sport. Moreover, he expressed his desire to take a break from tennis for a while.

Rafael Nadal on childbirth and his concerns attached to it

When asked after his appearance at the Laver Cup regarding his situation, Nadal said, “It’s been difficult weeks, few hours of sleep, a little stress in general.”

Indicating his personal issues, he said, “Situation is a little more complicated than usual at home. I have had to deal with a different pressure than you are used to in professional life.”

However, Rafael Nadal was delighted to be at the Laver Cup and said, “Luckily everything is fine, much calmer and in that sense, I have been able to come here, which was important for me.”

Will Nadal play at the Laver Cup?

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer had their dream come true of playing the final match of Federer’s career together. Their loss against Team World’s Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe did not matter much in the end, as the spotlight remained on the 20-time Grand Slam champion as his farewell from the sport.

Nadal too was in tears and could not hold his emotions back while bidding his greatest rival goodbye. Nadal then confirmed that is withdrawing from the rest of the tournament. He said, “I’m not well. I am not going to play. If I go (home) or not… I need to go back to the room and think it over (and confirm).

However, he is yet to confirm his decision, and he said, “I have a very important internal conflict and right now I cannot answer you.” Being with Federer in his last match is something that he wanted to do. So, even after sustaining various injuries and facing complications at home around his family, he was there to be with his friend.
