Ever since Novak Djokovic busted on to the big stage by winning back-t0-back grand slam titles since 2011, there was a constant debate in the tennis world over who will end up as the greatest player of all time amongst the Big-3(Federer, Nadal, Djokovic).

A decade later, it’s Djokovic who is really close to get the GOAT tag in men’s tennis as he grows further and further by winning his 20th major title at Wimbledon Championships.

During the fortnight at SW19, there was never a doubt in anyone’s mind regarding the Serb’s place in the final. Instead, fans began to speculate over who will face Djokovic in the final. This just shows the dominance of Djokovic displayed in men’s tennis over the last few years.

Novak Djokovic claimed his sixth Wimbledon title after beating Berrettini in the final

However, the Serb had to face a couple of tight challenges before claiming the coveted Wimbledon crown. The first big obstacle was Denis Shapovalov, whom Novak faced in the semis.

The young Canadian produced top-quality tennis throughout the match, but couldn’t match up to the strong defense game from Djokovic on the other end. The Serb defeated Shapovalov in straight sets to reach the final.

Even in the championship match, the 20-time grand slam champion faced an accurate server like Matteo Berrettini, who was in an exceptional form on grass courts recently. Once again, it was Djokovic who got the better off his opponent at critical moments.

Despite the Italian winning the first set, he was only given half chances in the next couple of sets. While one can say that Berrettini could have capitalized on the few opportunities presented, it’s always a daunting task to win a return game against Novak Djokovic.

Even though the Serb’s name might not come up in the greatest servers the sport has ever seen, the pin-point accuracy he maintains whenever he is down a break or two is astounding to say the least.

Failing to produce a dominating return game really hurt Berrettini as he lost the next three sets, allowing Novak Djokovic to claim his 20th grand slam title and a sixth Wimbledon crown, overall.

With this victory, the Serbian star is inching closer to win a calendar slam. He already captured three major titles this year. If he wins the US Open along with a gold medal at Olympics, his name will forever be etched in the history books of tennis.

“He is now in the best position to become the GOAT” – Patrick Mouratoglou on Djokovic

Post Djokovic’s Wimbledon victory, a lot of fans and coaches offered their views on the current GOAT standings. It’s safe to say that a fair amount of people view the Serb as the greatest player of all time.

One such person was Serena Williams‘ coach, Patrick Mouratoglou. The French coach, who was in awe of the Serb’s complete performance, hailed his problem solving skills on-court.

Novak is the most complete player of all times. That enables him to find the solution to most of the problems on court and this, on every surface. It explains why he is now in the best position to become the GOAT”, tweeted Mouratoglou.
