Two days ago, on 21st April, Spanish star Fernando Verdasco put up a tweet announcing the wildcard entries of the Madrid draw. The Spaniard might have posted it just as a piece of information. However, that didn’t seem to be received the way by the fans. The tweet in no time gained momentum with fans criticizing Andy Murray for getting a wildcard.

However, Fernando Verdasco came out in support of Brit sensation Murray receiving a wildcard in Madrid. Even though Murray replied to one of the tweets, it failed to receive the same amount of momentum.

During the ongoing debate of whether Murray should be given a wildcard or not, Murray himself replied to one of the tweets. The former World No. 1 cleared the air saying that he doesn’t have any problem playing the qualifiers. He also admitted that he might play qualifiers in Rome.

Replying to one of the comments, he wrote, “More than happy to play qualifying. Will most likely play qualies in Rome. If a tournament invites me to come and play in the main draw are you suggesting I should turn it down and play quailes?”

Learning about Murray’s reply, fans intensified their disapproval, putting forward the point that he has taken too many wildcards in the time gone by. The fans left no stone unturned in going completely against the 34-year-old.

Seeing the reaction, Verdasco had no option but to intervene in the thread. Verdasco replied to Murray’s tweet, coming out in support of him. The Spaniard admitted that Murray is the most deserving player on the wildcard list for Madrid. He also confessed that he will be happy to play in the qualifying too.

He wrote, Andy Murray Of course you should not turn it down. In my opinion, no doubt you are the one on the list that most deserves getting a wildcard in Madrid. Good luck at the tournament. PS. I would have been more than happy to have the chance to play qualifying too!”

Murray has played a total of 11 times at the ATP Masters 1000 Madrid. He first played in 2006, reaching the 3rd round. After having a similar result in the year, Murray made the biggest comeback in 2008, winning the title.
