Nadal has been an icon for children and people around Spain. The National tennis day celebrates the player’s legacy and his achievements, more than anything else. The day involves the whole of Spain, celebrating tennis with different activities. The activities will involve male, female, children, differently abled and other people, playing different variations of tennis.
The idea for the National Tennis Day came during the French Open match between Rafael Nadal and Richard Gasquet. The match took place on 3rd June, the Spaniard’s birthday. The idea spread around the world and was supported by Miguel Diaz as well, RFET’s President. “I was listening to Eurosport comments about Nadal’s game and I immediately understood that the idea was magnificent. Spanish Tennis has a lot to celebrate. We have the most outstanding tennis player of all time. We are current Davis Cup champions and we are in the finals of the Billie Jean King Cup. I think, as I say, we have a lot to celebrate,” said Miguel.
