The struggling phase doesn’t seem to end anytime soon for Vasek Pospisil. The Canadian sensation, who once had a career-high ranking of 25, failed to make it to the main draw of the Miami Masters and Indian Wells Masters this year. The current World No. 132 was next scheduled to feature at the Monte Carlo Masters. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Yesterday, 7th April, Pospisil took to his Twitter to provide an update about his health.

Vasek Pospisil gives a health update

The 31-year-old Canadian has featured in the main draw of just one ATP tournament so far this year. He reached the quarterfinals in Dallas. Apart from the Dallas Open, the former World No. 25 has been playing a number of ATP challenger events. Since the start of the 2022 season, Vasek has played a total of five challenger events, emerging victorious in one of those events.

He last played at the Sunshine Double but failed to qualify for the main draw after bowing out in qualifying rounds. However, the loss came with a larger price than just losses. In one of the qualifying round matches, Vasek suffered severe pain, that directly affected his on-court performance. In his tweet, Vasek confessed that following the pain, he went for an MRI. However, after receiving the MRI reports, he clarified that he will be undergoing a rehab process. He is expecting to return in about five to six weeks.

The tweet read, “After having pain the last month & upon reviewing the MRI results, I will need to undergo a rehab process. Hope to be back in 5-6 weeks. Disappointing news after a good start to the year. I will rest, rehab, and prepare the best I can & be back asap. Thx for the love.”

The prior injury of Pospisil at Indian Wells

Pospisil has been struggling to play a mainstream ATP Tour event since the start of 2022. However, that wasn’t the case last year. In 2021, Vasek spent his whole year playing main draw events. He started his year at the Australian Open, suffering a first-round loss to Daniil Medvedev. He further suffered early exits in the next few tournaments.

After skipping the clay season, he reached the quarterfinals in Eastbourne. However, the run was short lived as he faced a second-round exit at Wimbledon. Following a poor run of form, the Canadian arrived at Indian Wells Masters hoping for some resurgence.

In Indian Wells, he won his first-round clash against J.J. Wolf. He was up against his fellow Canadian Denis Shapovalov in his Round-of-64 clash. Trailing 0-3 in the first set, Vasek suffered a lower back injury, forcing him to retire from the tournament. Being in bad shape, the injury further forced him to be out of the tour for a month. Making a comeback, he played two ATP challenger events, before finally ending his year at the Davis Cup.
