The Wimbledon men’s singles final between world number 1 Carlos Alcaraz and world number 2 Novak Djokovic certainly lived up to all the hype and expectations surrounding it. The epic showdown that lasted 4 hours and 42 minutes was full of twists and turns, with 2 of the best players in the world going toe-to-toe against each other for the ultimate bragging rights. Like everyone else, Australian ATP star Nick Kyrgios was engrossed in the proceedings of the match, as he watched the thriller from his home. However, Kyrgios was clearly not impressed with one of the commentators on duty during the final.

The outspoken Aussie took to social media to express his frustration with the BBC commentator in rather harsh words.

The 28-year-old Australian is often termed the ‘bad boy’ of tennis owing to his on-court outbursts and antics, coupled with an unpredictably volatile personality. Kyrgios is currently recovering from a wrist injury that forced him to withdraw from the Wimbledon Championships. But that didn’t stop him from enjoying the highly anticipated final between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. One of the commentators of the match, however, seemed to have ruined the experience of the match for Kyrgios big time.

Known for being unabashed about expressing his opinions, Kyrgios took to Twitter and heavily criticized the man in question, who appeared to be none other than former British player Andrew Castle. “Whoever is the clown next to Woodbridge in that commentator box needs to just not speak 😂 spoiling the match big time”, he tweeted. Andrew Castle was on BBC’s commentary team for the Wimbledon finals, along with ex-Wimbledon semi-finalist Todd Woodbridge and former world number 4 Tim Henman.

Many of Kyrgios’ followers on Twitter echoed similar sentiments as they supported the Aussie lashing out at Castle’s performance on the mic. But surely, the thrilling encounter between Djokovic and Alcaraz didn’t disappoint Kyrgios, as the young Spaniard scripted history by toppling the mighty Serb in a memorable Wimbledon final – something which Kyrgios himself was unable to achieve in 2022.

Carlos Alcaraz dethrones Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon final after Kyrgios’ failed attempt last year

Novak Djokovic’s incredible 34-match winning streak at Wimbledon finally ended as 20-year-old Carlos Alcaraz outlasted the 4-time defending champion 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 on the famed Centre Court of the All England Club. This marked Djokovic’s first loss on Centre Court since 2013, when Andy Murray defeated him in straight sets.

Since then, many have tried to do the impossible task of beating Djokovic on the world’s most famous court, including Nick Kyrgios, who faced the Serb for the Wimbledon crown in 2022. Djokovic emerged victorious in that contest, winning his 4th SW19 title in a row and 7th overall. But Alcaraz managed to achieve the uphill task this year.
