Nick Kyrgios has been absent from the court for almost a year now. The Aussie player played his last match on January 13, 2023. He was set to play in the 2023 Australian Open when another injury brought up short his career. It caused him to withdraw from the championship, ruining hopes of growing even further in tennis. Now he’s the subject of a Netflix docuseries.
Break Point covers his bout with incessant injuries, where the frustrated player goes on to believe that there was a curse on his head that was stopping him from coming back.

Nick Kyrgios believes he’s jinxed
Break Point focuses on Nick Kyrgios’ status before he experienced the injuries in the entirety of 2023. Although the player may not be as heavily involved with the racket sport right now, he’s still a public figure. His segment in the docuseries starts off with his Wimbledon final against Novak Djokovic and then goes on to show the injury he experienced before the Australian Open.

The Serbinator played an exhibition match with Kyrgios, after which everything went downhill at breakneck speed for the Aussie player. “I got off the court yesterday and you can see on the side of my knee’s a little lump. I’m devastated, obviously,” Kyrgios said after he learned of his injuries.
He continued, “Feel’s pretty shit, to be honest. It’s gut-wrenching because I put hours, hours, and hours and hours of work in. But when everything is progressing pretty well, there’s always a problem. Uh, I feel like it’s a bit of a curse.”

The exhibition against Djokovic ended up being the last match Kyrgios played. The injury came after Kyrgios experienced one of the best seasons of his career, which came after he contemplated retiring. Unfortunately, the bad news might only continue for the Aussie star.
Netflix curse alive for Kyrgios
After Break Point aired last year, all players featured in the documentary would go on to lose in the first week of the Australian Open. Fans dubbed it the Netflix curse, and it is still alive for the 2022 Australian Open doubles champ. He first featured in the docuseries in season 1, which was followed by his injuries. Then, a second appearance sealed his fate.
