Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios had a brilliant run in the Wimbledon Championships 2022. The 27-year-old, usually known for his aggressive behavior, was also making headlines for his game. However, he couldn’t get the better of the seasoned campaigner Novak Djokovic. Djokovic was rampant throughout his campaign. Even though he lost the first set in the final, the Serb took the following three sets to win the title for the seventh time.

Later, the 27-year-old said he has learned a lot from his campaign. Further, he said that his respect for the “Big three” has increased after his Wimbledon run.

Respect for Federer, Nadal and Djokovic has increased – Kyrgios

Kyrgios’ loss in the final of Wimbledon made him understand that tennis is as much a mental game as it is a physical one. After missing out on the trophy, he realized that Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal have handled that pressure in a composed manner throughout their careers.

“You just have to be a mental animal to win a Grand Slam. Novak, Federer, and Nadal, I think I give them a bit more respect now,” he said.

Further, he praised how fresh Djokovic was in the final.

“Playing one of them in the final, I felt like he was fresh, felt like he wasn’t playing tennis for the last two weeks, never seen him rattled,” he added.

For winning a Grand Slam, one has to be prepared for the mental pressure. While Kyrgios upped his game this time, his understanding about the mental aspects of the sport will hopefully help him to go one step further in the future.
