Novak Djokovic set to give it a miss

However, what remains to be seen now is if the 20-time Grand Slam champion will go to Melbourne for the first Grand Slam event of the season. It is speculated that the Serb could issue a statement before the year ends. As of now, all cards could be left open.

Djokovic and the Australian Open share their own story. The Serb is the most successful player of the tournament, winning it nine times. If he goes there this season, he could have a shot of going for the 10th title in Melbourne.

It remains an interesting situation and we will receive more clarity on this in the coming days. Already, superstars like Roger Federer and Serena Williams have confirmed that they would be missing the first Grand Slam event of the season.

Even Nadal won’t be traveling to Australia anytime soon as he is dealing with an illness. It remains dicey for the big three at this point in time. In case they miss, it would be a great opportunity for the younger players on the Tour to relish their chances.

In the previous season, Russia beat Italy. It will be interesting to witness how things unfold in the upcoming days.
