“I’ve thought about this — if I played him in the Australian Open — I would just get every single person in the crowd to get on him. I would just turn it into an absolute riot. All respect would go out the window and I would just do anything to win,” revealed Nick Kyrgios on facing the world No.1 Jannik Sinner at the 2025 Australian Open. This all started when the Italian revealed that he tested positive for doping earlier this year. Now, the former World No.13 is at it again. But this time, he’s targeted the Fox by giving him a special title on the eve of Christmas!

For the unversed, the Aussie’s harsh criticism for Sinner began in August when he found out that the Italian was tested positive, twice, in March 2024. When the ITIA cleared him for “no fault or negligence,” Kyrgios had a strong reaction. “Ridiculous – whether it was accidental or planned.” he revealed in a post on X. “You get tested twice with a banned (steroid) substance… you should be gone for 2 years. Your performance was enhanced. Massage cream…. Yeah nice,” he wrote. But it was just the beginning.

Later, he kept taking shots at Sinner on social media. In another post on X, he wrote “OUR SPORT IS COOKED”, while reacting to Jannik’s doping scandal. But the latest incident is an interesting one, featuring both these rivals in one frame!

So there’s a fan account of Kyrgios on Instagram, titled @chiamarsikyrgios. It keeps sharing tennis memes and pictures. In one of its posts, dated December 25, this account took some help from AI, and shared an imaginary photo of Kyrgios and Sinner together.

They were seen smiling while donning adorable Christmas outfits. Merry Christmas from our favorite tennis players!😍” read a translated caption from the post. Well, it took no time for Nick to discover this image through another tennis account that featured it in a story.

Giving his own twist to the picture, he shared an Instagram story on Thursday and mocked Sinner. “Me and the Grinch” he wrote while describing the AI-generated image showing the crossover of these two tennis personalities.

Is Nick Kyrgios justified in his relentless criticism of Jannik Sinner, or is he overstepping?

Have an interesting take?

Fun fact: For the unversed, The Grinch is a character created by children’s author and cartoonist Dr. Seuss. The Grinch is a popular character of ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’ – a children’s book from 1957. He’s a green-skinned, furry, pot-bellied, pear-shaped humanoid creature, with a short and flat nose, who has a cynical personality in general. The Grinch is highly unsociable and ill-tempered in the book’s story. He simply dislikes the season of Christmas. Specifically, he gets annoyed by the elements of Christmas. These include the irritating noises of various musical instruments, the Christmas dinner itself, and people singing Christmas carols. The story then sees him eventually deciding to ruin the fun as he goes on a destruction route in order to spoil the festive occasion.

Coming back to Kyrgios’ ever-growing criticism for Sinner, his latest Instagram story isn’t the first time he has targeted the two-time Grand Slam winner. He’s kept calling shots at him on previous occasions, too, this past season.

Nick Kyrgios and his constant Jabs towards Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek

Apart from Sinner, even WTA star Iga Swiatek was also tested positive for doping this year. She revealed this news last month when she informed that her medication (Melatonin) was contaminated with a prohibited substance Trimetazidine (TMZ). But similar to Jannik Sinner, who told that he was unaware regarding how he got the banned substance in his system (Clostebol), Swiatek was no different. She tried to explain that she had no idea of how she got TMZ in her body.

Seeing these top tennis players’ justification, Nick couldn’t resist from sharing his frustration. “The excuse that we can all use is that we didn’t know. Simply didn’t know. Professionals at the highest level of sport can now just say “we didn’t know”. he wrote in a post on X last month while referring to Swiatek and Sinner.

Then, on Instagram, Nick Kyrgios posted a story with a picture and wrote, “No contamination, just a normal cream used on an operated wrist. From an experienced physiotherapist who I am responsible for. Happy to be back and not cheating the system.” This was a direct jab at Sinner. Reason?

Well, the World No.1 had previously mentioned that the banned substance entered his system through his physiotherapist who accidentally applied a cream containing clostebol, on his body while him giving massage.
