Nick Kyrgios and controversies—never too far apart! Whether he’s firing shots on doping cases or clapping back at his critics, the Australian “Bad Boy” of tennis never misses a chance to make waves. And true to his personality, Kyrgios is stirring the pot once again after his recent defeat to Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the Brisbane International. While the loss was saddening for Kyrgios, what followed were the critical remarks from some fans. But if there’s one thing Kyrgios doesn’t do is he doesn’t take the criticism lying down.
The Australian tennis sensation faced a defeat to Perricard in a tightly knit contest in Brisbane. Both players pushed each other to their limits, but eventually, it was the Frenchman who prevailed 7-6(2), 6(4)-7, 7-6(3). Notably, Perricard smashed a whopping 36 aces against Kyrgios proving his mettle. This defeat quickly drew criticism for Kyrgios with fans bashing him for losing a match against a young player. However, Kyrgios knows how to respond back to his haters and he is doing exactly that.
As he looks to recover from his Brisbane campaign, Kyrgios engaged in a Q&A session with his fans on Instagram. Participating in the session, a fan shared that Kyrgios should be proud of his performance given Perricard beat Frances Tiafoe as well, who lost 6-4, 7-6(4) to the French youngster, and witnessed 20 aces fired against him. Responding to that, the Australian star criticized his haters.

“People are idiots 😂😂😂 they have no idea and always have plenty of opinions. We are some of the best athletes in the world, as Bron said, they gotta wake up and have the same lives as they had yesterday. We continue to live the way we want,” Kyrgios wrote. Remember, Kyrgios has returned to professional tennis after quite a long time following a prolonged issue with his wrist.

The 29-year-old played his last match at the Stuttgart Open in 2023 and has been battling with a wrist injury for quite a long time. He also underwent a ‘secret’ surgery on his wrist which he opened up on, in an interaction with The Canberra Times in June this year. For a player to return after a long hiatus and push his opponent to the limits is still worth appreciation. However, with continuous flak coming his way, Kyrgios decided to give it back to his critics.
The challenges for Kyrgios are, however, far from over. The Aussie has continued to share concerning updates about his wrist that might also impact his tennis career.

Nick Kyrgios shares concerning update about his wrist
Nick Kyrgios’ fitness challenges began after he fell in a match against Grigor Dimitrov at Indian Wells back in 2015 and sprained his wrist. While he did not face any major issues immediately, his problem intensified over the years leaving him struggling with pain. In the last couple of years, it worsened to the extent that he failed to make a comeback on the courts for 18 months. And now, even though he has returned to the competitive arena, his challenges do not seem to die down.
Engaging in an interview during the Brisbane International, Kyrgios shared that he has no plans after the Australian Open and heis not sure about his schedule. “I’ll just, yeah, see how my wrist pulls up from the load of this week. First of all, that’s the priority. If it feels good, we start building back up on the tennis courts, start going back to work. I don’t have any plan after the Australian Open tennis-wise, to be honest,” Kyrgios shared. He shared a similar update on his Instagram story as well.
