‘Nobody Died..’ – Coach Downplays Roger Federer’s Retirement as He Predicts Swiss Maestro’s Future

The recent announcement that Roger Federer made on his retirement from professional tennis has dominated the headlines for days now. He’s been basking in the glow of the worldwide love and support from tennis fans and professionals that he’s been receiving.

Twenty-time Grand Slam winner, Roger Federer’s coach and former Croatian tennis player Ivan Ljubicic predicts that Federer will remain relevant in the sport long after his playing days are through.

What the coach has to say about the Swiss sensation

The Swiss ace’s coach, Ivan Ljubicic, remarked that despite being aware of the retirement call Federer had taken, it would take some time for him to get to terms with the tennis star’s decision to bid adieu to the sport.

“We could prepare for it, but it is hard. It is hard. I knew Roger would struggle emotionally, of course. I think everyone expected that,” he further added.

After retiring from tennis, the former world No.1 was not going anywhere according to his coach. “He is not going to be playing any competitive matches, but he is definitely going to be close to our sport. He loves it too much to not be connected to it, “Ljubicic elaborated.

In addition to this, the Croatian trainer shared some details regarding his time spent training Federer. He said that working with the tennis pro was a breeze because she was so open to feedback.

According to Ljubicic, seeing Federer’s opponents and friends, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray at the Laver Cup was too much to handle. The coach reflected that it was an incredible moment when everyone, even Team World, who finally held the trophy for the first time, shed a few tears.

He then added, “It is not a funeral, nobody died, it is all good – so we have to move on and celebrate who Roger is, what he brought to our sport, and what he will keep bringing in the future”. Hence everybody decided to celebrate the precious moment.
