An all-German encounter ensued in one of the ATP Mexican Open 2021 semifinals. World No. 7 Alexander Zverev defeated his countryman Dominik Koepfer 6-4, 7-6(5) to reach his 23 career final.
To make it in the semifinals, the 2020 US Open finalist had received a walkover from Norwegian professional Casper Ruud. On the other hand, Koepfer had outclassed American Cameron Norrie 7-5, 6-4 on his way.
Significantly, both the Germans put on an out-and-out performance in their battle that lasted two hours and 10 minutes. In fact, there was no separating them until 5-5 in the tie-breaker of the second set. But eventually, Sascha came through and is now looking forward to playing for the title against top-seed, Stefanos Tsitsipas.
