“Not Easy To Accept”: Gael Monfils Reveals On-Court Struggles Ahead of French Open 2020

Frenchman Gael Monfils is not in the best of shape. The 34-year-old, who is a tremendous athlete, is undergoing a tough phase in his career. Monfils is now 0-2 after returning to competitive tennis. With a heavy heart, he posted a message on Twitter about his physical condition, alarming his fans.  

Over the years, Monfils has entertained us with his high-flying abilities on the court. He’s a master of trick shots, and his commitment to the game is immense. However, Monfils is struggling to find his form at the moment and has lost in the first round in back-to-back tournaments.

Monfils posted an emotional message in his native language, which reflects his state of mind after two tough losses. He then posted a translated version of it, for his non-French speaking fans.

“Hi all, I wanted to share some news with you since my return to the Tour in Rome and Hamburg. I haven’t been feeling great on the court and it is not easy to accept. This period is a little complicated but I will continue to fight, train and hope for better results soon.” 

These are indeed testing times for the athlete, but the World No.9 hopes to break out of it. He’s undoubtedly a quality tennis star who has the capacity to captivate any audience with his breathtaking talent.

But he acknowledged his shortcomings and wants to recoup his form.

“This period is a bit complicated but I will continue to fight, to work, hoping that the feelings return. Thank you again for all your messages, you already know it, but I am very sensitive to it, THANKS for the LOVE,” the Frenchman addressed.

All athletes go through a desperate times in their careers. A career in sports doesn’t always go uphill, and players have to endure losses and tough times. Sadly, not every fan understands this, and we often see some of them berate players for their poor performances. 

Monfils crashed out of the Italian Open in the first round to Dominik Koepfer, in straight sets. A few indisciplined fans had lashed out at Monfils on social media for his loss. Gael Monfils recorded the messages and boldly posted them on his Instagram stories to reveal the amount of hatred he’s facing.

It is disheartening to see the amount of harsh criticism and unjust messages these athletes wake up to. Fans need to empathize with the players and understand the level of hardwork they put in and the intense preparations they undergo to put on a good show.
