With a hard-fought victory against Jan-Lennard Struff, Frances Tiafoe registered his name in the top ten players in the ATP rankings along with securing the Stuttgart Open title. Later, the American star opened up on whether it is different to be at the bottom and at the top in tennis.

The American star had a splendid run in the past year. The milestones include reaching the US Open semifinal and the Japan Open final. Though he has not lifted a singles Grand Slam title in his career yet, he was with the American squad that lifted the United Cup earlier this year. As he is looking unstoppable now, the American star talked about how different the tennis world looks from the top in an interview.

Frances Tiafoe on how different it feels to stay in the top ten

Frances Tiafoe fought an intense battle to lift his title on Sunday. The match went into three sets, with the final scoreline ending 4-6, 7-6 (1), 7-6 (8). After the match, the American star revealed that he was going to remember the victory forever. Talking to a Spanish magazine, Puntodebreak, Tiafoe shared his observation that he doesn’t see much difference between the top and the bottom ranked players.

Rather than giving the airs of a top ten-ranked distinguished elite, the star opined, while talking to the magazine Puntodebreak, “Everybody moves very fast. Any player in the elite of this sport has great mobility, you almost have to have it to be there. With the issue of rackets and so on has become something brutal. This sport is more and more complicated. The boys are more and more skilled, there is not much difference in level between a guy who is #80 in the world and another that is #10.”

But whether there is a difference between a top-10 player and an eightieth ranked player, Frances Tiafoe was certainly able to make a difference. He shattered several records with his win in Stuttgart. He became the third African-American to reach the top ten after Arthur Ashe and James Blake. Also, it was after 14 years that an Afro-American entered the top ten in men’s tennis. Further, Frances Tiafoe alongside Taylor Fritz became the first two Americans to be placed in the top ten together for the first time in a decade.
