Andy Roddick’s ‘worrying’ concern for Rafael Nadal’s health
The 41-year-old former American tennis player discussed whether or not he thinks Rafa’s comeback will affect him in a recent podcast on the Tennis Channel. He stated, “Right but Rafa, it needs to be a little bit of a sliding scale. He needs to get through this tournament healthy if you can get a couple of matches in with a day in between. That is a success right?”
Roddick acknowledged Rafael Nadal’s skill in tennis but also expressed worries about the Spaniard’s health. He underlined how crucial it is for Nadal to maintain physical fitness to reclaim his standing as a top athlete.
Further, he added, “You take that that’s a 12 out of 10 result he needs the matches. I have no doubts that if he’s healthy and can get a little on court work in and match situations going into Roland Garros. He will be okay there. I’m not worried about his tennis. I’m worried about his body.”
Even though he talked about a lot of possibilities for when Nadal would be okay on and off the court, his major concern was not his comeback in the tennis world but whether his body would support him or not. While everybody is concerned about his tennis from a few months ago, the Spanish former world number one made his tennis intentions quite clear.

When Nadal revealed his 2024 French Open goals
After drawing from the Qatar Open earlier this year, he revealed his major goal for this year. He stated, “Roland Garros will be one of my goals. I’d like to play at the Olympics as well. It’s not something I can confirm right now, but I hope I will… I think I will.”
A torn muscle that Rafael Nadal suffered in Brisbane, a few months ago, has hindered his play and caused multiple tournament postponements. As a result, he has not been able to perform at his peak level in 2023. But with the French Open only a few months away, the Spaniard’s supporters were looking forward to his comeback to the court. And now that he has confirmed his on-court presence at Barcelona, anticipations are flying high. But, only time will tell!
