Novak Djokovic: Ex-coach Goran Ivanisevic Explains the ‘Trouble’ Involved in Paris Olympics Quest

Novak Djokovic has repeatedly stressed his Olympic gold medal aspirations throughout his career. The “Serbinator,” perfectly exemplifies the saying “where there’s a will, there’s a way.” While he has proved that setting his sights on a goal guarantees he’ll achieve it, the Olympics is a different ball game, as per his former coach, Goran Ivanišević. He went on the offensive in a recent interview, outlining the historical roadblocks that have prevented Djokovic from Olympic glory and potential pitfalls he may face in Paris.
Most tennis players don’t fuss about representing their country. The 24-time grand slam champion is not one of them. National pride burns brightly within him, fueling his relentless pursuit of tennis glory for his home nation. After securing a Davis Cup win, Djokovic sets his sights on the ultimate prize: Olympic gold. Ivanišević recently spoke to Sportal, where he said, “When he plays for Serbia, he is 100 percent motivated, and I know that he will be 800 percent ready and motivated.” However, trouble awaits the Djoker as per his former coach.
Goran further emphasized that the shorter format allows less room for strategic maneuvering or surprise tactics.”The trouble can be that it is played on two won sets. There is little “trick” because there is no place to draw, as you have when you play in five sets. He knows it, he has the software in his head and he will be as ready as possible. When that software adjusts in the head, it will be maximum.“

For the Djoker, adapting to the game of his opponent is a big strength, and it has helped him win bronze at the at Beijing 2008 Olympics once. As he talked about the trick that Djokovic needs to win, Ivanišević delved into what the Serb needs to have a shot at the gold medal.
Novak Djokovic needs ‘a trophy at Garros or Wimbledon’ to win the bling
Ivanišević had been with Novak Djokovic for 6 years before their split and helped him win 12 grand slams and break many records. The former’s insight for the latter before the Olympics is that he needs to go into Paris already prepped. “There is no space to warm up in Paris, he must be maximally motivated and ready immediately.” He further said, “It is important that he is ready in his head.”

Aside from being ready, “What I(Goran) think is crucial is that he wins a trophy at Garros or Wimbledon, it will give him the necessary confidence for the Games. He is missing the gold and I know he will surely go for it in Paris.“
