Novak Djokovic hurried to be by his father’s side as he was “taken to the hospital.” Unexpectedly, Srdjan, the 63-year-old father of the Serbian legend, was taken to a hospital in the capital of Serbia after suffering injuries to his arm and shoulder in a fall while tending to birds at home. But now there is good news for Djokovic’s fans, as his father is out of danger after pulling off a successful surgery.

Djokovic’s father was reportedly sent to the Emergency Center in Belgrade following a chair fall that resulted in a shoulder injury. On April 29, he had emergency surgery at the emergency center, which was completed effectively. He next had surgery to fix the fracture in his upper arm and shoulder bone for the same reason.

According to information gathered by Sportal, he is already out of danger following a successful surgery and will need time to recover from the surgery. The 63-year-old, who has reportedly broken his humerus, was accompanied to the hospital by his brother Marko, uncle Goran, and the world No. 1 player himself. The 24-time Grand Slam winner chose not to compete in the Madrid Open, so he is presently spending time with his family at home.

Although Djokovic chose not to compete in the competition, he was present in the Spanish capital last week for the Laureus Awards, where he received his fifth World Sportsman of the Year title. At the Awards, he stated, “I’ve planned to play in Rome, so I hope I’ll be able to do that, if I prepare well. This year has been a bit different for me, I haven’t yet found my best level of tennis and I hope I will at Roland Garros.”

Subsequently, back in 2019, after winning Wimbledon, he talked about his parents. He stated, “My mother is a rock who kept the family together in the toughest moments. My father is the driving force of the family, someone who has instilled in me such power of belief and positive thinking”. However, while Djokovic’s father is quite popular in the tennis arena along with his son, last year, in a documentary, he also talked about his son’s retirement.

Novak Djokovic’s father takes on the Serb’s tennis

Srdjan in a documentary last year stated, “My wish as a father – I think for some time that he should have stopped working this extremely difficult job. It’s physically and mentally challenging and very demanding – with him being fully dedicated for 30 years, and not taking his foot off the gas, there is not much time for other things in life.”

Furthermore, the 63-year-old explained how he wished to see his son retire from tennis last year itself, but the thoughts of retirement are far behind as he is still the world’s number one-ranked tennis player. In addition, he highlighted how his wish to watch his son touch heights on the court had already been fulfilled 7-8 years ago, but the rest is just an amazing bonus from his son.
