After making his competitive debut at the age of 15, Novak Djokovic went on to mark a total of 98 triumphs on the tour. The Serbian tennis player’s enviable trophy haul includes 24 Grand Slam singles titles and 12 ATP 250 titles. Djokovic’s long list of achievements has now garnered him praise from the Indian WTA star, Sania Mirza.
The 24-time singles Grand Slam champion has always been a part of the longstanding ‘GOAT’ debate in the tennis community. While issuing her candid take on the topic, the former doubles world No. 1 player Mirza recently hailed Djokovic as the ‘greatest ever’ while his Spanish colleague Carlos Alcaraz had to take a back seat.

The Indian WTA star talks about Novak Djokovic and his phenomenal ‘numbers’
The numbers don’t lie as they prove that the Serb is the ‘greatest ever’ on the ATP Tour, according to the Indian former tennis player’s recent bold assertions. Reflecting on Novak Djokovic’s previous encounters with his new fierce adversary, Carlos Alcaraz, in the 2023 season, the tennis veteran was recently asked, “Sania, we are also living in the era of Djokovic versus Alcaraz, how do you look at this?”
In her honest response, the Indian WTA star stated, “It’s incredible, right? If you just go by numbers, there is nothing greater, there’s nobody greater than him just in terms of plain simple numbers people can argue with fan bases.”

Even though Djokovic might not have the upper edge in terms of ‘popularity and charisma,’ Mirza claimed that the Serb’s remarkable numbers alone make him the “greatest ever.” She added, “People can argue with Charisma, people can argue with popularity. But just by numbers, Novak Djokovic is the greatest ever.”
Ahead of the Australian Open, the 10-time champion in Melbourne has already garnered praise from the former WTA player. The ‘Djoker,’ who is the number one seed player, will begin his defense against Croatian qualifier Dino Prižmić, as they will lock horns on the opening day of the first Grand Slam tournament of this new tennis season.
