The World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has once again exceeded the expectations of his fans by winning yet another award. He has been honored with the European Sportsperson of the Year award for the fifth time. In the last 13 years, he has won it 5 times, and this time, he follows fellow World No. 1 Iga Swiatek   , underscoring tennis pros’ pre-eminence among European sportspersons.

After winning the award, he was asked the question for the umpteenth time—does he consider himself to be the GOAT. As always, his answer stood out and put things in proper perspective.

Winning an award like this is of course a big deal and Novak Djokovic’s fans are extremely happy about it. However, just like every single time, he was bombarded with the same question about being the GOAT. So, Djokovic probably decided to send out an answer that shuts down this question once and for all.

He wrote, “We can have 3 answers. First one: I am the best. If we think that, one is going to say: ‘how arrogant of him! He doesn’t respect others.’ Second answer to say: ‘I don’t think I am the greatest,’ being humble, which is possible. And the third one: ‘I am who I am, I am proud of what I have accomplished but I respect other eras and other opinions and I leave the GOAT debate to other people.’ That’s my answer.”

Without sounding arrogant, he gave the most humble and straightforward answer to the question and made it go away once and for all. But him being the GOAT is not one man’s opinion, there are plenty who back this claim. Just recently, former pro Tim Henman also mentioned how Djokovic is the player to look out for in 2024 as well.

It’s not going to get easier for him but he certainly makes it look easy. Further Henman also added that Djokovic has the hunger and desire to keep winning and going and that is why in 2024 as well he is the player to beat. He is a favorite at the start of the year and he will certainly dominate.
