After Novak Djokovic’s split from his former coach, Goran Ivanisevic, many new names surfaced as his next potential coach. However, Boris Becker has completely ruled out his chance of a reunion with World No. 1. Becker, who has previously worked with Djokovic, considers his collaboration with the Serbian tennis star a “step back.”
Boris Becker, who coached Djokovic between 2013 and 2016, remains a close friend of his. But when it comes to their professional partnership, he declared that he is not interested in coaching Djokovic again. “I couldn’t possibly be his coach again, because I’ve done that. It would be stepping back,” Becker said in his latest interview.
He made it clear that, at this point, both of them are looking for something different. Djokovic hasn’t had a coach since the announcement, but according to Becker, he might be getting ready for the Olympics in Paris. Djokovic, who has not had a good start to the season, recently withdrew from the Madrid Open.

Boris Becker expressed his shock at Djokovic’s decision, implying that he requires competition and matches to move forward. He did concede, though, that Djokovic has a busy schedule right now, which might be the primary reason behind the decision. He pointed out how the Serbian is currently hoping to bring home the gold for his country. “Maybe he’s already scheduling himself to be still fresh for July. This could be a reason. You can never underestimate #Djokovic or count him out.”

During Becker’s partnership with Djokovic, he achieved a total of six Grand Slam titles and held the world number one ranking for 122 weeks. While their partnership came to an end in December 2016, Becker has never shied away from celebrating Djokovic’s career milestones. Last year, he even wrote about how he considers Djokovic to be the “most successful player of all time.”

Even after he won his 23rd major crown in Paris, Becker’s acknowledgment of this huge success was noticed when he said, “Novak Djokovic, you did it. And how you did it—with confidence, skill, and style. Biggest congrats for your record-breaking 23rd Grand Slam title, Roland Garros. What an outstanding achievement, considering where you come from.”
Boris Becker, who recently stepped down from coaching Holger Rune, might not be Djokovic’s new coach. However, his constant support and admiration for Novak Djokovic will continue forever.
