The influence of Novak Djokovic in making Serbia, a tennis-playing nation

Despite all the hardships during the initial stages of his career, the Serb has now become a 24 Grand Slam titles holder. Djokovic is currently ranked at the number one spot in men’s singles ranking for a record of 401 weeks in thirteen different years. He also holds the record of becoming the year-end number one for a record 8 times. Djokovic has influenced tennis ‘euphoria’ in Serbia and here’s what the Serbian tennis journalist has to say.

Tennis wasn’t so popular in Serbia before Novak. I mean, we had some good players. Of course, there was first former Yugoslavia with many good players, especially from Croatia, like Ivanisevic and so on. And when Novak came actually, he came in a package with other players, you know, with female players Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic. They’re all number one in their categories. So it was really lit. Yeah. Something like big tennis euphoria back then. And big boom, big tennis boom. And, of course, there’s so many good things that happened in Serbia because of Novak,‘ Nebojsa Viskovic.
