With 63 ATP singles titles on the clay courts, Rafael Nadal has undoubtedly reigned supreme on the surface over the past few seasons. Among the Spanish player’s many achievements on clay is his triumph at the 2009 Monte Carlo Masters, where he pulled off a stunning cross-court winner against his arch-rival, Novak Djokovic. As some of the top ATP players recently took a trip down memory lane, they issued their honest reactions to one of the best-ever plays in this Masters 1000 event.

The official YouTube channel of the Monte Carlo Masters recently brought to light a video clip showing top-ranked ATP players like Daniil Medvedev and Holger Rune reacting to Nadal’s 40-shot-long exchange with his Serbian opponent. Medvedev said, “When Novak goes on the knees after.” Meanwhile, Rune dropped his reaction by saying, “That’s such a long rally. 85 shots over the net. To hit that shot is sick.”

During the same conversation, the Serbian player opened up about how he still remembers his epic rally against his fierce rival on the tour. He said, “I remember this point more or less by heart. I’m still at the baseline still waiting for the right ball. I’m still waiting for the right ball. I come in now backhand down the line. I go on my knees and that was pretty much it.”

As he tasted a defeat with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 1-6 in the championship game, Djokovic also talked about how he failed to win a single game after their lengthy exchange in the decisive set. The Serb said, “I don’t think I won a single game after that. And it was only first game of the third set. But it was a great point. We had some good battles here. “
