Sports are one of the most followed events in the world. After subscription services became the norm, a large majority of users only subscribed to cable in order to follow sports. Tennis usually doesn’t find itself facing streaming issues in the US. However, the ability to view it at home has become hindered by the disputes between Disney and ESPN.

Disney to now share streams with US Open players

Over Labor Day Weekend, channels like ESPN, ABC, and others owned by Disney went off the air for those who subscribed to Charter Communications for their cable needs. They account for 15 million television viewers and even broadcast live for many hotels. The dispute between Charter and Disney is depriving many viewers of the US Open livestreams.

Not only home viewers but many players of the US Open aren’t able to watch the ongoing matches. Daniil Medvedev was one such individual and expressed his frustration with Disney during his post-match conference after beating Alex De Minaur. He wanted to watch other matches but had no source to stream them. Therefore, he said he relied on pirated streams to keep up with the tournament.

His comments certainly sent Disney into panic mode. Now, they recently announced that they will allow access to the Walt Disney Firm application to some players who have voiced their frustration at being unable to watch the matches. Medvedev is an outspoken person, and he did not hold back when talking about using illegal streams.

When Daniil Medvedev talked about his only option

For American tennis fans and for fans of American players, two quarterfinal matches were not to be missed. Taylor Fritz vs. Novak Djokovic and Frances Tiafoe vs. Ben Shelton were two matches no one wanted to miss. But being in the US, there weren’t many ways to watch them on TV. Therefore, Medvedev said that he would use illegal streams to watch these matches.

His comment made him quite relatable to over 15 million users who had to resort to such methods in order to watch the final slam of the year. Now, as Disney is allowing the stream to some players, they are likely to make some changes for the public soon.
