Things literally got tense and heated up during the clash between Australian Nick Kyrgios and world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev at the US Open 2022. The latter threatened to pull out of his match against Nick Kyrgios, as he didn’t like how the Australian support staff carried out.

Daniil Medvedev ultimately went down to his counterpart with a score of 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, and 2-6.

Medvedev showed his displeasure at Kyrgios’ camp

In the first set, which saw both players lose their cool, Kyrgios eventually won with a score of 7-6. After the first set, Nick took a five-minute break, which made Medvedev yell at the referee.

He further went on to say that “They are in a box of a professional tennis player, they cannot do it on my serve. One more time and I am not playing anymore.” The Russian eventually lost the match after four sets of intense battle by a scoreline, 6-7(11) 6-3 3-6 2-6.

Before entering this tournament, Medvedev found himself a fan favorite, a stark contrast to his welcome in 2019 when he was greeted with loud boos. As a result, before the start of this tournament, Medvedev was the clear favorite to win again because two of the Big Three were on the sidelines and the third, Nadal, had only played one tour-level match since Wimbledon. But luck didn’t favor him this time around.
