“One of My Fondest Memories”: Roger Federer Reminisces About His Record-Breaking Event With Rafael Nadal

Two of the big names of the sport, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, have many unforgettable memories together. Whether it be a Grand Slam match or any other ATP Tournament, they have never failed to give their all to the sport.

Federer and Nadal even teamed up for Team Europe in the Laver Cup, which was a huge success. On many occasions, have also played exhibition games for various noble causes. Roger Federer recently shared an image from one such event, hosted in South Africa, two years ago.

Roger Federer shared a story on his official Instagram account, labeling it as “one of my fondest memories – 2 years ago”. The event was a huge success, with the largest attendance at a tennis match (51,954 fans). The match was between the Swiss ace and his close friend Rafael Nadal.

Bill Gates partnered Roger for the doubles game. They won an exhibition set against Nadal and comedian Trevor Noah 6-3. Roger also won his singles match against the Spaniard 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in a charity match. The event was organized as a fundraiser by the Roger Federer Foundation.

The former World No. 1 played in just 5 competitive tournaments in the 2021 season. After his knee surgery post-Wimbledon, he’s yet to make an official announcement about a return date. His last game was the quarter-final against Hubert Hurkacz, which he lost 3-6, 6-7, 0-6.

The 40-year-old player has ruled out his retirement from tennis for now. He is trying to make a comeback in summer 2022. He would definitely want to compete in Wimbledon one more time, but it seems unlikely for now, as per Federer.
