The 20-year-old Spanish tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz is currently going through a rough patch. The rising star had kicked start his career in style clinching 2 major titles in two years. But there has been a sudden slump in his dream run. Recently, he has been suffering from a lower back and left foot injury which took him out of Swiss Indoors. With an eye to finish the season atop the Pepperstone ATP Rankings for the second time in a row, he looked to make a comeback in the Paris Masters. Sadly, now the chase looks quite difficult for the Spaniard. But why?

Roman Safiullin recently defeated the world number 2 by 6-3,6-2 margin in the Round of 32 in Paris Masters. This was the first defeat in an opening match of the Masters 1000 tournament for Alcaraz since he lost to Tommy Paul last year in Montreal. Alcaraz made 27 unforced errors in the match and the 45th ranked completely outclassed the number 2.

Carlos Alcaraz last played during his Round of 16 defeat to Grigor Dimitrov in the Shanghai Masters on October 11. He looked rusty and quite unfamiliar with what his fans have always expected from him on the court. After putting the ball in Djokovic’s court, the journey to the top looks quite difficult now for the former number one. Will he come back at the ATP Finals? Here’s what he has to say on that.

I don’t know. I have time before the ATP Finals, a lot of days of practice to be able to reach that level. The level that I want to play. But right now I’m not in the right time to talk. Honestly after the loss, I have to take some time, you know, before thinking about the next days. You know, and the days that what I have to do or what I’m gonna do, you know. But obviously, before the ATP Finals begun, we have time” said Carlos Alcaraz.

The Spaniard who must be back home by now must be cheering for Argentina’s Tomas Etcheverry in the Round of 32 match against the Serb on Wednesday. It will be a mammoth task for the rank 31 to beat the number 1 in the Paris Masters. But, anything is possible in this racket sport. Alcaraz knows that very well!
