‘Pretty Bad Social Anxiety’ – 25-Year-Old Taylor Fritz’s Defense Amidst Intense Criticism Over Team USA’s Horrific Davis Cup Exit

Taylor Fritz, the American tennis player, recently found himself in an ugly spat of words with other players. He was questioned about Team USA’s loss at the 2022 Davis Cup. Italy eliminated the US from the 2022 Davis Cup in the quarterfinals, which included Fritz and Frances Tiafoe. After its loss, Fritz shared his views on Twitter.

Controversy emanated after the former American doubles world no.1 player mocked the team for its loss. Rajeev Ram wasn’t chosen for the event and he expressed his displeasure about the same. Later on, the players started to mock Fritz and their team for their negligence and performance at the losing match.

Thanksgiving Day is generally a happy occasion for most people, but that wasn’t the case for the US Davis Cup team. The American Davis Cup team did not include Rajeev Ram. Ram didn’t hold back when he shared his disappointment in the U.S. team via a sarcastic tweet.

A few months back, he had teamed up with Sock in a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 victory over Great Britain’s Andy Murray and Salisbury. The win helped the USA to advance to the quarterfinals. Other players and fans were quick to mock Taylor Fritz for the team’s loss. In retaliation, Fritz tweeted,” I mean… one thing I gotta say is I’m shy in person and have pretty bad social anxiety…”

The Olympic silver medalist, Ram is 38 years old and may not have many opportunities to compete in the Davis Cup before he retires. However, the decision to opt him out proved deadly for the USA team. Fans & other players didn’t hold back their thoughts and Fritz was heavily disappointed to be caught up in the controversy. He shared,” ..so I don’t think that’s fair for you to assume anything about my ego ..”

Fritz also clarified,” and if ur gonna take shots at me and my team’s character I feel like I do deserve some explanation.”

The American team had arrived in Spain with high expectations that they could end this dry spell. However, Italy defeated the United States in the Davis Cup doubles match to reach the semifinals for the first time in eight years.

Fritz defeated Rafael Nadal in the 2022 ATP Tour Finals

In his last ten attempts, Rafael Nadal has failed to win the ATP Finals championship. In 2010 and 2013, he came in second. Fritz, the eighth-seeded player at the ATP Finals, defeated Nadal in straight sets this year, and thus put the Spaniard’s quest off to a bad start.

Fritz dominated in the second set to defeat Nadal, the top-seeded player, 7-6 (3), 6-1, after a closely contested first set. The 36-year-old Nadal has now dropped four straight matches for only the second time in his career.
