Rafael Nadal’s impact on the tennis court has the power to intimidate the greatest players in the tennis community. After his much-awaited comeback on the court, his fans got a glimpse of his outstanding performance at the Barcelona Open last day. In the first round of the match, he proved to the world how those afterburners kicked in. Owing to that, Flavio Cobolli, his opponent, shared a warning about Nadal’s comeback after the match.

Despite not competing in a competitive match since January, the 22-time Grand Slam champion easily defeated Cobolli. He crushed him in 85 minutes to advance to the next round. It was Rafael Nadal’s first time playing on clay since winning the French Open nearly two years ago. However, his incredible prowess on the court made his opponent, Cobolli, give caution to the upcoming players on the clay court. “Rafa is back,” said Flavio Cobolli after his match.

The World 62nd had a firsthand experience of Rafael Nadal’s powerful skills on-court with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat. The 37-year-old Nadal played skillfully against Cobolli on the ground named after him. He might not have been as willing to sacrifice his body to rescue a shot as he had previously been, but he was never out of his control.

The 21-year-old Cobolli appeared a little taken aback at being so easily defeated by an athlete fifteen years older. And especially by someone who hadn’t played on clay in almost 700 days. But Nadal seemed comfortable gliding around the court because he understands clay as well as he does tennis.

To put it into words, Rafael Nadal seemed back in his element. Therefore, Cobolli’s warning of the greatest tennis player’s incredible comeback resonated with his fans as well. After the match, Nadal shared his joy of performing on a ground where he had previously won 12 times.

Currently ranked 644th, Rafael Nadal’s first appearance since January has left his fans impressed once again. He has previously indicated that 2024 remains his last season before retirement. Therefore, the greatest clay courter of all time is putting in his full efforts to make it his best. He expressed how he is just having fun and is pleased to start his clay court season with a victory. “It was a good start. When you return, you can’t get rid of the doubts in one day, above all, on a physical level,” he said after the match.

“Within what it could be, it was a good first round. He made mistakes, and I think I played the game that I had to play,” he further added, referring to Flavio Cobolli. Fans are now waiting to see him conquer the tournament once again before his retirement. He is due to play Alex De Minaur in his next match at the Barcelona Open.
