The first set started with Norrie taking up service, as he went on to hold his first game smoothly. The same was followed by Rafa in his serve. Holding their service till 2-2, it was Norrie who was back on serve. However, hungry for opportunity, roaring Rafa took the lead in the game, going on to break Norrie’s serve. With the break, the Spaniard took a 3-2 on serve lead. A variety of shots, coupled with heavy serving, gave Nadal an upper hand in the set. Hitting 10 winners and just 4 unforced errors, Rafael went on to win the opening set 6-4.

The second set started with Spanish legend striking early and breaking Norrie in his opening service game. However, the 26-year-old Norrie, eyeing his maiden Acapulco title, raised his game, breaking back Nadal in his opening game, levelling the set at 1-1. Both the players held their next two serves with ease. Even though it was Norrie back on serve, Rafael had some other plans. Not in a mood to take the match into the third set, the 21-time grand slam again broke Norrie, taking a 3-2 on serve lead.
