Guess who recently got nominated for the title of the Most Important Spanish Personality of All Time? He’s the one who has contributed the most in the history of racket sport in Spain. But also spread his wings throughout the world. The 37-year-old Spanish tennis icon, Rafael Nadal recently got nominated for this prestigious award for his enormous contribution to his nation.

The 22 Grand Slam title winner has been the epitome of dominance on the court throughout his career. He has been a source of inspiration to many rising stars in the world of the racket sport. La 1 is now looking for ‘The best in history’. Who’ll win it this time?

Throughout his astonishing career, Rafael Nadal has been nominated for several awards and has won quite a few of them. The Spanish superstar has earlier won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award five times in his career. He has been Laureus World Sportsman of the Year twice in his career plus he was named as one of the 100 most Influential People in the world in 2022.

That’s not all, he has been a recipient of the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Sports Merit, the Grand Cross of Naval Merit, the Grand Cross of Order of the Second of May, and the Medal of the City of Paris. There’s plenty on the list. But let’s keep it there for now and focus on his recent nomination for the prestigious award.

Recently Rafael Nadal got himself featured among the list of nominations for the most relevant Spaniard in the history of the country. It’s an award presented by Silvia Intxaurrondo to discover who is the most relevant and admired figure today according to all the Spaniards in the history of the country. 50 nominations in the list are put into 5 groups. The five most-voted personalities will compete in the final. It’ll be decided by online voting, where spectators will have the last word. And, only one will become ‘The best in history’.

Another prominent name on the list from the tennis world is the former tennis player who had once ruled the racket sport, Manuel Santana. Can Rafael Nadal outclass other superstars and put another feather to his cap?

Nadal is up and running in the Land Down Under

Rafael Nadal got off to a stellar start to his 2024 campaign after making a comeback in an almost 1-year gap. He won his first match against a familiar rival from Austria. He beat Dominic Thiem by a 7-5,6-1 margin in front of a jam-packed Pat Rafter Arena on Tuesday.

 With this win, he has now moved into the Round of 16 of the Brisbane International. He will now take on the Australian, Jason Kubler in his homeland later today. With this win in the first match, Nadal has now jumped to 541 from 672 in the men’s singles ranking. If the 37YO manages to clinch yet another victory, he’ll then move into the QF.
