Rafael Nadal is 35 years old now and just won the Australian Open finals. The record holder for most Grand Slam wins is still far from retirement. But the post-tennis career for the Spaniard looks set in stone as of now.

In a recent online talk with a Santander Bank Executive, Rafa has expressed his willingness to work with the giant bank. When Ana Botin, the executive chairperson at the Santander Bank, asked on behalf of her team whether Rafa would be interested in working with the bank post-retirement this is what Nadal had to say.

Rafa, who is also an ambassador for Spanish Bank, took the question in a friendly way and answered, “Yes, I would love to work with Santander, if you allow me. I don’t know in which job (position)” The friendly chat between them continued with Mrs. Botin confirming the job availability and was open to discussing the position most suitable for him.

Rafa assured her that he will find his way. Well, the hardworking Nadal is surely a serious contender for any position he may take. The deal also includes the sharing of expertise, as El Nino will teach tennis to executives, and in return, she will help him understand banking.

All said and done, we never want Rafa to actually step away from the sport, but only time will tell his post-retirement plans.

Rafael Nadal and the Santander Connection

 

Two of the big names in Spain joined hands in 2019 when he signed a long-term contract with the bank to be their ambassador. The bank is operational in 15 major countries across the world, including the US, Spain, and Great Britain.

The Bank considers Rafael Nadal as the best-suited ambassador for them. He had 19 Majors (till 2019), 5 Davis Cup, 2 Olympic Gold, and Spain’s Prince of Asturias award. The bank’s official site declared their association with Rafa and highlighted the key points for the decision.

The disclosure reads, “His winning spirit and athletic ability, thanks to the values he holds and strives for every day that he has achieved all of this. Therefore, to have his discipline, humility, and respect as an example to us all is a great honor. This is why Santander wanted him to return to what will always be his home.”

 

Nadal does have all the aforementioned attributes which made him the Champion player he is today. We are certain that even after his retirement from tennis, Rafa may join any discipline and succeed with the core values he has.
