Remember when Roger Federer bid farewell to tennis at the 2022 Laver Cup, sharing his final match with Rafael Nadal in doubles? Since then, the 20-time Grand Slam champion has graced events like Wimbledon, sitting in the royal box and melting hearts with his presence. His fiercest rival, Nadal, followed suit by retiring at the 2024 Davis Cup Finals, leaving fans nostalgic for their era-defining battles. But here’s the twist: at this year’s Laver Cup, Federer’s longtime agent Tony Godsick, president and CEO of TEAM8, dropped a tantalizing hint about a possible comeback for the two generational icons.

At the 2025 Laver Cup, Tony Godsick sat down with Tennis Channel and dropped a revelation that sent shockwaves through the tennis world. When asked about Roger Federer’s possible return, the longtime agent revealed, “I’ve been pressuring him a little bit, saying, come on, people want to see you play again. You can play a couple of senior things,” hinting at talks with the Swiss legend.

Godsick went further, teasing fans with Rafael Nadal’s involvement. “We’ve been talking to Rafa a little bit about maybe putting a little tour together. So, Roger just wanted to make sure that his knee was fine. He didn’t want to be totally broken after his career, so he gave it a little bit of time. He’s not there yet, but he’s in the gym a lot. I think Rafa is interested. I don’t want to speak for Rafa, but it would be great to see these guys out there.”

Even Roger Federer has once again ignited the imagination of tennis fans worldwide, raising the thrilling prospect of reviving his legendary rivalry with Rafael Nadal. His latest comments have set pulses racing, stirring hopes of seeing the two icons share the same court once more. In a recent interview with CNBC, Federer hinted that a comeback could happen in the form of a seniors tour: and he made it sound tantalizingly possible.

“Yeah, why not?” he said when asked about leading such a tour. “I love Rafa. I played four hours of tennis here in San Francisco and also an hour and a half in LA. I am playing a lot, I’m trying to keep in good shape. I know Rafa is open to playing some more tennis. It sounds terrible… seniors tennis. Maybe we can create a tour. A ‘Fedal’ Tour.”

Federer also reflected on why he originally launched the Laver Cup, to celebrate the legends of the game. “One of the reasons I started the Laver Cup was to shine a light on the past greats of the game and maybe a seniors tour, we’ve had it in the past. There is a lot of appetite to see past champions in tennis, so I could look into that, for sure.”

The Swiss maestro has been seen back on court frequently, hinting at a physical and mental readiness for one last chapter. His suggestion of a ‘Fedal Tour’ has already sparked excitement across the tennis community.

Roger Federer opens up about life post-tennis

Since hanging up his racket in 2022, Roger Federer has embraced a life beyond the tour with grace and purpose. He has shifted his focus to family, travel, and personal projects, savoring the freedom that comes with no longer being bound to the relentless demands of the ATP calendar. For the Swiss maestro, retirement has opened a new chapter: one where he sets his own rhythm and places priority on what matters most outside the white lines of the court.

Yet, the love for the game still runs through his veins. Federer has remained committed to staying fit, training regularly, and even creating a dedicated gym space in his home. The Swiss legend has spoken about how much he enjoys this new stage of life, using the time to maintain both physical and mental balance.

A special moment awaits in October 2025 when Federer steps back onto the court at the Shanghai Masters for the Friends Celebrity Doubles Match. This won’t be about competing for titles, but about celebrating the sport he helped define. For fans, it will mark a symbolic moment, a reminder of the artistry he brought every time he played.

Reflecting on life after retirement, Federer admitted, “I didn’t have any plans per se as I was always trying to come back and then all of a sudden I realised that was it. And then I was just ‘okay, it is over, what now?’ I think now I feel I am more in control of my schedule as before I was just… the afterburn of having just retired, so it has been good, honestly.”

He elaborated, “I have to be careful I don’t do too many things, but at the same time I’m really happy to be busy, I like being with other people, love being with my family, I love to travel. But I guess sometimes you just have to make sure to find the right balance and I feel like I have that, so it’s great.”

Federer even laughed about his commitment to fitness, adding, “I am trying to go to the gym four times a week and I can’t believe I am actually doing that. I rent the space at home and put the machines in and I got it the week after the Laver Cup in London, so it was like, after my career I finally had a gym. I would still like to play some exhibitions down the road so I want to stay in shape and try to look good a little bit.”

Tennis fans across the globe are already imagining the scenes: a nostalgic encore of the sport’s greatest rivalry. And as Federer keeps his game sharp and Nadal stays intrigued, the world waits with one collective cheer: bring it on, legends!
