In one of his recent interviews, Rafael Nadal undermined Novak Djokovic. What did he say that rubbed many the wrong way. Well, he opined that he and Roger Federer reinvented themselves. But on the other hand, Djokovic didn’t need to evolve as much. “The only thing that has demanded him to improve his game has been his rivals, not physical issues,” he said.

He went on to say that “Federer was perfection” and watching the Swiss player on court moved him. Of course, this didn’t go well with Novak Djokovic’s fandom. Now there’s a political twist to the narrative. A member of the Congress has shared their take on Nadal’s comments.

Claudia Tenney dislikes the “disappointing envy from Nadal”

Djokovic has won 24 singles grand slam titles, whereas Nadal has 22 and Federer has 20. But for Rafael Nadal, it is not just the numbers that matter, “It’s the emotion that draws you.” But some disagree with him.

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney wrote on Twitter (now X), “Disappointing envy from Nadal. @djokernole is not only the greatest tennis player – EVER – for so many reasons, he’s my choice as the greatest athlete in the modern era. No one else has had the mental toughness and grace to overcome the needless obstacles and petty political tropes hurled at him repeatedly.”

As stated by Tenney, Nole has held stances that put him in situations. Back in 2022, in an interview with ‘BBC’, he stated that he would willingly miss out on future tennis matches than be forced to get a Covid vaccine. The 20-time Grand Slam winner was deported from Australia in 2022 after the government canceled his visa over his vaccine status.

In fact, mandatory Covid vaccines was something Tenney stood against. She was unhappy how ‘Djoker’ was also not being allowed to compete in the USA in 2022 because he declined the vaccine.

Thus, her strong voice backing Djokovic has impressed many Tennis fans and pushed them to call out Rafael Nadal and his inclination toward Roger Federer. But what does the Serb think about Federer and Nadal?

Novak Djokovic thinks it is difficult to compare

In an interview with ‘Sports Illustrated’, he stated it was difficult to juxtapose different definitions of G.O.A.T., opinions and eras. He is of the opinion that the argument is very relative. However, he also shared that he hopes to form a friendship with Nadal and Federer and that they can form a ‘big three’ someday.

“I mean, obviously, we didn’t get along so well throughout our careers, off the court. And we are not friends because, you know, we’re rivals, and it’s difficult as competitors to be very close and kind of share and give insights to your life or to how you feel because it could be used against you.”

Novak Djokovic has shared the court with them several times. Thus, he has a lot of respect for them. “… they have really defined me as the player that I am today.” In fact, he also said that he owes his success to them because their rivalry pushed him towards excellence.
