Ravaged City of Acapulco Receives a Much-Needed Helping Hand of Stefanos Tsitsipas as He Joins ATP Peers to Assist the Recovery

Acapulco, the home to a famous tour where major players from around the world participate, is currently facing a post-calamity crisis. The beautiful city was struck by Hurricane Otis recently. Quite expectedly, the city has faced massive destruction in terms of both life and property. Tennis players, being connected with the city because of the major tour, have been coming forward to share their emotions about the situation. As the residents of Mexico’s favorite city currently face the aftermath of this crisis, famous figures like Rafael Nadal, recently came forward to voice their heartfelt emotions for the city.

While the city continues to heal at a very slow pace now, Greek tennis sensation Stefanos Tsitsipas, with the help of a video that aired on social media, appealed in front of the world to raise funds for the cause.

Hurricane Otis, a record-breaking Category 5 storm, struck the city of Acapulco, Mexico. The calamity, along with causing a huge property damage, has been reported to have claimed the lives of at least 27 people as of now.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, one of the renowned figures in the tennis community, was recently seen in a video that went viral on social media. In the video that reeled with pictures that show the mass destruction that the hurricane has caused, the tennis star said, “This natural disaster has created a crisis, and Acapulco needs your help.” Along with mentioning that, he moved ahead to announce that the tournament, in collaboration with the NGO Construyendo, is taking the lead in the reconstruction efforts. To which the tennis star tried to seek help from the world as he mentioned, “Your effort is much appreciated.”

As the video caught air on social media, many fans and people related to the tennis community came forward to express their concerns. However, Tsitsipas wasn’t the only player who came forward to raise their voice in support of the cause.

Rafael Nadal’s reaction to the destructive calamity

Along with other players who came forward with their emotional reactions, tennis legend Rafael Nadal also shared his emotions. The Spaniard, who has won the prestigious tournament in Acapulco three times, expressed deep sorrow at the disturbing sight. Along with sharing images of the now-ravaged stadium on his Instagram account, Nadal left a caption that said, “Sad seeing the images of the destruction caused by Hurricane Otis in the place where I played so many times.”

While the city now stands in a moment of crisis, the heartfelt efforts from tennis stars as well as the tournament authorities came out to be quite appreciable. As the moment stands to be quite difficult to be faced by the residents who have lost their loved ones and homes, the world needs to unite to help for the cause.
