“Really Hurts”: Dominic Thiem Gutted Over Spectator-Less Davis Cup 2021

The US Open 2020 winner, Dominic Thiem has finally announced some happy news on his return to the ATP tour. However, the Austrian has missed the ongoing Davis Cup 2021 happening across different countries. Thiem just expressed that he’s heartbroken to know that the matches will be organized behind closed doors.
Thiem believes he won’t be able to experience such a live performance at Davis Cup in Austria once again. Owing to the pandemic, the officials have decided not to allow any tennis fans in the stadium.

Dominic Thiem is hurt
Austrian’s pride, Dominic Thiem has unfortunately pulled out from the Davis Cup 2021. However, just recently he shared he’s unhappy that tennis fans won’t be able to witness such kind of wonderful experiences in Austria again.
Austria is one of the host countries for the Davis Cup 2021. However, the authorities of the stadium have decided to not allow tennis fans into the stadium due to COVID-19. “It really hurts. I may never experience such a great home Davis Cup again,” he stated in an interview.

Thiem last played professionally at the Mallorca Open in June 2021. In his round of 16 match against Adrian Mannarino, the Austrian suffered a major wrist injury, which eventually forced him to retire. Since then, Thiem has decided to focus completely on his rehabilitation.

Thiem looks confident on his comeback
The one time Grand Slam champion, Dominic Thiem has finally spoken on his return to professional tennis. In an Instagram post, Dominic shared some major updates on his wrist injury.
“I am very happy to announce that my recovery is going well. I’ll be returning to competition in December and will be playing the MWTC 2021 in Abu Dhabi – with the objective to return to the tour for the 2022 Australian Open,” he wrote on Instagram.

Furthermore, the Austrian also thanked all of his fans for showing support in the challenging circumstances. Dominic Thiem is excited to play his first competitive match after almost six months of absence from the tour.
