Boris Becker, a six-time Grand Slam champion and Novak Djokovic’s former coach, has commented on what transpired in the Serbian’s US Open Round of 16 match. As we all know, Djokovic was disqualified early in his match against Pablo Carreno Busta for accidentally hitting a lineswoman with a ball, which struck her throat. Becker supports the decision taken by the tournament organizers.

Djokovic and Becker go a long way back and have enjoyed success together. However, their time came to an end in 2016, when Djokovic decided to move on from the German as his head coach.

Now, Becker has stated his opinion on how Djokovic’s dramatic exit from the US Open might affect his mental strength. Of course, Becker spoke about this, keeping in mind that the 2020 French Open is fast approaching. It will be the final Grand Slam of the calendar year.

Joan Solsona of MARCA reported Becker’s thoughts on how Djokovic will react with Roland Garros around the corner. Here are Becker’s comments, translated via Google:

“I hope not but you never know. Djokovic received a lesson in front of everyone and I think he will learn from it to come back stronger, “ Becker said. Moreover, the 52-year-old did not hold back from putting forth his comments on the decision made by the US Open 2020 officials.

Becker mentioned how Djokovic “lost his nerve” and committed a sinful act on the tennis court.

“The rule is very clear: if you hit someone, especially a referee, voluntarily or involuntarily, you are eliminated. And I don’t think that rule will change from this precedent.”

John McEnroe takes a dig at Novak Djokovic for his ill-tempered actions

“I am amazed that he did something as bone-heady as that, in a situation where he was the overwhelming favorite. He obviously tapped out. So what if he lost his serve to Carreno Busta,” McEnroe added.

This also happens to be the most sensational event that happened in tennis this year. What seemed like an inevitable Grand Slam victory for Novak Djokovic ended in an unexpected manner, and he will now have to wait for the French Open for another crack at his 18th Major. Moreover, this incident has also stained his perfect 29-0 start to 2020.
