Hollywood Hills witnessed a devastating start in 2025 when a brush fire burned more than 40 acres of vegetation in the area. Not only that but this fire threatened the iconic place’s major landmarks forcing the authorities to issue many evacuation warnings and orders. This fire known as the Sunset Fire broke out on Wednesday and killed around five people as reported by California Government’s representative Gavin Newsom. However, the officials confirmed by mid-Thursday that the fire was stopped. Acknowledging the officials’ efforts, the former American player dropped a heartwarming message highlighting how team efforts saved America’s iconic place from being engulfed in fire.
LA Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley came forward to explain how the coordinated air and ground fire suppression efforts “rapidly and aggressively attacked ” the fire and working crews “put out spot fires within the perimeters to keep the wind from spreading any additional embers.” The administrative authorities’ dedicated efforts to extinguish the fires received a special mention from former pro, Mardy Fish.
Reflecting on how the authorities put their heart and soul into the work to save Hollywood Boulevard, Fish recognized their efforts and thanked them on X. “What they did last night to stop the Hollywood Hills fire is nothing short of miraculous. The pilots of the helicopters and planes to the men and women on the street standing their ground to make sure that fire didn’t get to Hollywood Blvd… Saved thousands of structures and homes. @LAFD,” Fish tweeted. Fish’s tweet was inspired by American golfer Max Homa, who also tweeted acknowledging LAFD’s selfless efforts to mitigate this disaster: “If u know anyone with the LAFD plz pass along our thanks and admiration for their heroism”.

The bushfire in the Hollywood Hills might have stopped, but it has left a scar on people’s minds. This catastrophic event destroyed more than 1000 structures, mostly homes, and forced 130,000 people to evacuate the area. Reflecting on the horror it left on people, Russian former pro-Maria Sharapova expressed her feelings. She shared an aerial view of LA covered in dense smoke and added a broken heart emoji that revealed her sentiments about the disaster.
Echoing Sharapova’s sentiments, Coco Gauff’s former coach Brad Gilbert also tweeted, “On the plane ✈️ now to Melbourne seeing the videos on X it is so scary 😱 what’s happening in palisades and Malibu, the winds were were brutal and unfortunately still are, anyone know how far up the PCH the fire 🔥 has gone into Malibu now, firefighters 🚒🙏 🙏🙏🙏 stay safe.” Naomi Osaka also shared a screenshot of her Threads post on her IG story with a black backdrop that said, “Hope everyone in LA is staying safe.”
Along with the tennis personalities their famous WAGs have also shared their feelings about this unimaginable disaster. The list includes Martina Navratilova’s wife, and Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe’s girlfriends, who sent their prayers for those who suffered in the bushfire.

She constantly expressed her feelings on her IG story confirming that she was “praying for everyone affected by this devastating fire.” She also urged her followers to “Pray for LA” amidst this harrowing situation.

Echoing Lemigova’s feelings, Taylor Fritz‘s Minnesota-born social media influencer girlfriend expressed sheer sadness that she couldn’t be with her people at this time. Riddle, a native of the valley, accompanied her boyfriend to Australia for the season’s first major tournament. Expressing her sadness, she wrote on her IG story, “I feel completely drained and helpless being on the other side of the world while my home burns. People I love are in such a scary situation, and thousands of animals will suffer. I am far from over. LA friends, please foster if you are in safe areas.”

Like Riddle, Frances Tiafoe‘s girlfriend Ayan Broomfield chimed in to show concerns over the bushfire. “What is going on? Praying for everyone in LA right now,” she wrote, while sharing an image of the fire from the LA sky on her IG story.
The catastrophic Hollywood Hills bushfire has arisen serious concerns among people. Fires like this, which typically catch during the sweltering summer months, uncharacteristically flared up in the middle of winter, destroying many houses and properties and highlighting the serious risks of global warming. While the situation has now been mitigated with the help of government authorities, it showcases why its high time that people take care of the environment.
