Tennis and fashion go hand-in-hand! It has always been a sport that combines athleticism with style. Over the years, fans have witnessed on-court fashion trends change and evolve. Even off the court, fashion statements have made a significant impact in grabbing the attention of all racquet sport lovers. Be it Novak Djokovic‘s ‘wise fashion choices‘ or Roger Federer‘s ‘charming outfits‘. They have always been a class apart! In the recently released, ‘FEDERER: Twelve Final Days’ documentary, both the tennis stars were caught giving fashion tips to Stefanos Tsitsipas.
A lighthearted moment unfolds in the documentary when Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic discuss their attire for an event. Djokovic reveals someone commented, “You have the wrong shirt!” Federer, ever the cool head, replies, “Like we all have different shirts,” implying a relaxed dress code. The conversation takes a turn as Djokovic playfully points to Stefanos Tsitsipas and says, “This one,” hinting at something unique about Tsitsipas’s choice of clothing.
The Greek tennis star then reacted by asking him, “It’s wrong?” It’s wrong?” Then Djokovic gave a cheeky smile and told him, “But nobody told you it’s not wrong!” Stefanos Tsitsipas then added, “Okay, so it’s supposed to be like that?” (pointing out Roger Federer’s shirt). Both Federer and Djokovic quickly said, “No“. Instead, the Serb pointed out a shirt, which was a bit short. Djokovic claimed it to be the appropriate one to wear with the suits.

The current World No. 3 feels, “Psychologically, the color of what I wear is very important. Tennis is a dynamic and fast sport. Everything happens in the blink of an eye. So, you need to feel like you’re part of your surroundings. What I wear on court is important to me.” He feels his dress plays an enormous role in feeling the energy around him, but what about Roger Federer? Here is how Mirka Federer’s epic reaction forced Roger Federer to think more about his dresses.

“Errr, are you sure about this look?” – Roger Federer reveals his wife’s reactions to his earlier dressing sense
During an interview in 2022, Roger Federer revealed, “I used to wear jogging shoes, jeans, and a practice shirt. Then when Mirka met me, she would look and go, ‘Errr, are you sure about this look?’“ According to Roger, Mirka was very sophisticated in the earlier days and how she used to save her money to buy “something proper.” Whereas Federer himself was “happy without much“, but then with time he realized that he needed suits, and ties, for the red-carpet appearances. He understood the importance of changing his style and using different ties and suits. “I started to enjoy making changes, trying out a few things, and different combinations,” Federer admitted.
Reflecting more on his dresses in the past, Roger Federer said, “I don’t understand how I used to wear [size] extra large. But that’s how we used to dress. Sampras and Agassi used to wear this baggy stuff. It was just a trend, so in hindsight, I think, ‘Was I crazy to wear XL at 17?” He cited the feeling of being big and buff when you weren’t yet to be the main reason for such dressing choices. However, now things have changed and everyone now wants to look stronger and slimmer. Federer admitted that he has now finally understood the “power of clothes.” Who do you think among the ‘Big Three‘ is the most stylish tennis star?
