There is no denying that the sport of tennis has drastically changed over the past few seasons. Not just tennis; the Canadian tennis player Milos Raonic believes it’s the same case with other sports as well. In a recent discussion, the ATP player attributed this evolution to some of the greatest athletes, like Roger Federer and LeBron James.
The 32-year-old was recently asked to draw comparisons between himself and the ‘Big 4’ on the men’s tour. While brushing aside the ‘ridiculous comparison,’ the Canadian star player opened up about how the likes of Roger Federer and the NBA legend, LeBron James, have set ‘new standards’ in the sporting realm.

In a recent episode of ‘The Craig Shapiro Tennis Podcast’ show, the Canadian tennis player was asked about some comparisons between himself and the Big 4 on the men’s tour. Milos Raonic said, “I think it’s kind of the most ridiculous comparison honestly.” While revealing the reason behind the same, the 32-year-old asserted that these tennis greats have ‘changed’ the sport.

He said, “Because of the other guys around. These guys push you, right? They have changed our tennis. They have changed how a player prepares. They have changed how professional players, how, how a player looks at the calendar year, how the player manages things. Players have set new standards right? Ivan Lendl was first player that went into a gym that worked out. Now we’ll see a tennis player at a Grand Slam practice for two hours. But you may think that’s it.”
As he talked about the drastic evolution of athletes, Milos Raonic also mentioned some of the big names in the sporting realm. Raonic said, “That player is probably spending twice as much time in the gym or on a physio table. That wasn’t done that way before. Players have evolved players athletes have evolved. We see it in every sport. LeBron James is playing much longer than MJ did. Tom Brady is setting a new standard. Roger Federer set a new standard. New standards have been set. I’m glad with the time I played.”
