Roger Federer’s influence has been enormous in the tennis world, no doubt. But, beyond the sport, he is also a figure of inspiration for musicians as well! As revealed by the German pop star, Tim Bendzko, who explained how he came up with his latest song, “KOMM SCHON!” 

To us, tennis fans, Roger Federer’s Swiss-German phrase, “Chum jetze,” which translates to “come on,” has a different place in our hearts. It reminds us of his spirited calls during intense matches in his career. Federer has used this phrase throughout his career on different occasions, showcasing his focus and competitive spirit. During one of those matches, Tim Bendzko, a singer and an ardent follower of his, was present. And when he heard Federer cry “Chum jetze,”  it stayed with him forever. 

“In the meantime, this has become a winged word in my circle of friends, which we say,” the 39-year-old singer said. This led him to write a song, called, “KOMM SCHON!” which also translates to “Come on now”. The song was released this April and has since received a lot of admiration from fans. He explained how “from the sports world, you can also transfer a lot to normal life. My idea was to write a song for something you set out to work for. This Come on pushes you a bit over the finish line.” 

And exactly so happened during one of the matches where Federer’s “”Chum jetze” resonated with all fans worldwide. When the Swiss maestro was about to win 20th Grand Slam at the Australian Open in 2018, his “Chum jetze” signified that he was not giving up and he was not to be beaten!  And with his unwavering focus, he emerged victorious after a three-hour-long match. Even later on, his emotional speech explained how determined he was to play and defy the odds to win the grand slam.

When Roger Federer won his 20th Grand Slam at the 2018 Australian Open, he became the first male player to achieve that record. Not only that, it was also his sixth Australian Open title in his career. Naturally, after winning, he became quite emotional during his speech. 

“I’m so happy it’s unbelievable. Yeah it’s a long day waiting for the finals,” he said. Continuing further, he said, “But of course winning is just an absolute dream come true. The fairytale continues for us, for me, after the great year I had last year it’s incredible.”

By then, Federer had already endured his knee injury, which happened in 2016. But it never came in his way of achieving success on-court. The following year, he earned two grand slams and five ATP titles without exhibiting any signs of discomfort on-court. But eventually, his injuries became the reason behind his retirement in 2022. However, his reign on court, along with his “Chum jetze,” still echoes in the tennis world.
