Roger Federer Says His Achievements for Switzerland Are Far More Important for Him Than His Personal Ones

Over the years, Roger Federer has carried Swiss tennis on his shoulders. The 20-time Grand Slam champion is one of the country’s greatest ever sportspersons. Apart from his achievements on the ATP Tour, the Swiss maestro is also a decorated Olympic athlete.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he teamed up with Stan Wawrinka to win the men’s doubles gold medal. Further, in the 2012 London Olympics, he claimed the silver medal in men’s singles. His biography describes one of the proudest moments of his career.

Revealing his commitment to the country, the book says, “Representing Switzerland in Davis Cup play and the Olympics is very important to him, but unfortunately, his commitment to Davis Cup has sometimes been sacrificed to attend to priorities in his singles career. He described the moment he led the Swiss Olympic delegation as the flag-bearer at the Opening Ceremonies at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece as one of the proudest of his life.”

Federer’s Laver Cup suffers a massive blow

Recently, Wimbledon finalist, Nick Kyrgios pulled out of this year’s Laver Cup to spend time with his family. It comes as a huge blow to the tournament as the Australian star pulls in massive crowds. Moreover, Team World will be without one of their key players against Team Europe, boasting the likes of Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, and Murray.
