Things haven’t been going the way Roger Federer would have liked over the past year. The 20-time Grand Slam champion suffered a shock defeat against Hubert Hurkacz in the quarterfinals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Subsequently, the Swiss maestro suffered a knee injury that ruled him out for the remainder of the previous season.

To repair the damage done to his knee, Federer underwent surgery. As a result, the 40-year-old is away from tennis for over 11 months now. Owing to his lengthy injury layoff, the Swiss legend has suffered a massive blow in his ATP ranking.

Roger Federer moves out of the top-50 of the ATP ranking

For the first time in 22 years, Federer dropped out of the top-50 of the ATP rankings. He is currently placed at the 68th position on the ATP rankings chart.

However, this is not the only bad news for Federer. The former World Number 1 will lose all his ranking points after Wimbledon and, as a result, will move out of the ATP rankings.

As a result, he has slipped to the third position on the ATP rankings chart, making way for Daniil Medvedev to regain the Number 1 ranking.
